Café branding checklist: what a new café in Hyderabad needs before launch
The name, the mark, the menu, the cup and the feed: everything to have ready before the doors open.

Opening a café is mostly about coffee, rent and people. But the brand is what customers see before they taste anything, and it is much easier to get right before launch than after. Here is the checklist we use with café founders, drawn from our work with The Autumn Leaf Café in Jubilee Hills and First Pour.
1. A name that sets a standard
Your name is the first promise you make. First Pour, a café coming up inside Between the Brewery, takes the brewery's own phrase and gives it to the morning coffee. Check the domain, the Instagram handle and the trademark before you commit.
2. A mark that works small
Your logo will live on cups, stickers and a tiny profile picture. The Autumn Leaf Café's wordmark is one unbroken line of script that ends in a single leaf, simple enough to read at any size.

3. Two or three colours, and the discipline to keep them
A small café becomes recognisable by repetition. First Pour uses just two colours, a roasted red and a warm cream. Write your colours down with exact values and never improvise.
A café looks premium when everything matches, not when everything is expensive.
4. A menu that carries the brand
The menu is the brand document customers read longest. At The Autumn Leaf Café, every section opens on its own illustration, in the same hand as the wordmark. Decide on menu sizes and structure early, because they affect printing and signage.
5. Takeaway packaging
Cups, boxes and bags travel further than your signage. Design them as carefully as the room. Even plain kraft with the wordmark and one illustration can feel considered.
6. A drawing or icon system
A small set of illustrations or icons lets the brand speak on walls, menus and posts without repeating the logo. First Pour has fourteen café objects drawn in one line.
Customers remember one consistent detail far longer than ten clever ones.
7. Instagram, planned before the first post
Your feed is your second shopfront. Build a mood board and a post template before you launch, so the first nine posts look like one place. We plan and run The Autumn Leaf Café's Instagram, and every festival post is drawn in the same hand.
8. Signage and the space
The brand has to feel like the room. At The Autumn Leaf Café, ochre walls and green shade set the tone, and the brand had to feel just as unhurried.
Common mistakes to avoid
Launching with a temporary logo. Customers form their impression in the first weeks. Changing the brand later costs more and confuses regulars.
Designing the signboard last. It is the largest, most permanent brand surface you have. Plan it with the identity, not after.
Too many fonts and colours. Every extra choice makes the café look less considered, not more.
An Instagram with no plan. A feed of random photos tells customers nothing. Decide the look before the first post.
Before you open, check that you have:
A name you can own, with domain and handle secured.
A logo that works at thumbnail size.
Exact brand colours and fonts, written down.
A printed menu and a digital version.
Cups, boxes and bags designed and ordered.
Nine Instagram posts ready to go.
